The year was 1985, the movie was " Back To The Future " and the goal; time travel! As we sat back and watched this awesome classic 80's movie, we all wanted to jump in the DeLorean and time travel with Doc Brown and Marty McFly.
The main component that makes time travel possible, the Flux Capacitor! It consisted of a box with three small flashing incandescent lamps that were arranged as a " Y ", located above and behind the passenger seat of the DeLorean time machine vehicle. As the car neared 88 miles per hour, the light of the Flux Capacitor pulsed faster until it has a steady stream of light. The stainless steel body of the DeLorean also had a beneficial effect on the Flux dispersal as the Capacitor activated. The coils that were across the front and along the rear sides known as the temporal demodulation coils, are key parts to open a hole in the time barrier. So in order to travel through time, the DeLorean equipped with the Flux Capacitor needed to be traveling at 88 mph and required 1.21 gigawatts of power which was supplied by a plutonium-powered nuclear reactor.
